Is there a reason to use a chisel instead of a drawknife? I suppose the chisel is cheaper, but when I carved an oar using a drawknife I was really impressed. I made a decent looking oar for the first time in a couple of hours. Too bad it warped; next time I should cut the blank down the middle, turn over one side and glue.
